01 April 2016

Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell has recently been donated a RoomMate by local company ADi Access, based in Truro. RoomMate is an audio description unit which will be placed in a disabled access toilet at Little Harbour allowing for easier usage by those who are visually impaired or blind.

On entry to the toilet the unit will describe the location of the various items in the room giving those who have limited sight more independence.

Little Harbour supports children with life limiting illnesses and their families through short stays, respite, palliative and end of life care as well as bereavement support.

The RoomMate will be able to be used by any of the children that visit the hospice as well as family members or visitors.

Tamsin Lewis, Head of Care at Little Harbour said “We are really grateful to have had the RoomMate donated to Little Harbour. It is an amazing piece of equipment which we are proud to be able to say we have at the hospice and we thank ADi Access for wanting to support us in this way.”

Managing Director of ADi Access Helen Kemp said “ I have worked with severely sight impaired children who have life limiting conditions, when in my role as a Mobility and Orientation specialist.

It gives us great pleasure to donate a RoomMate to provide enhanced independence opportunity to such youngsters at Little Harbour.

Donations of the RoomMate to locations across Cornwall was a dream of ADi Access which would not have been made possible without the support of many people donating to our Crowdfunding campaign."
